5 INGREDIENTS FROM YOUR KITCHEN CUPBOARD THAT WILL DELIVER A NATURAL GLOW AND INSTANT TIRED MUM PICK ME UP

It’s Friday night and it’s been a loooong week. The kids are in bed, Dad is on the couch in front of the footy and you have about an hour before you plan on heading to bed too. While you pour yourself that well deserved wine, why not get out these five pantry staples for a completely natural, tried-and-tested, surprisingly simple, mini beauty treatment that will leave you feeling clean, fresh and completely rejuvenated - all before going to bed!

1. Honey Facemask

We recommend quality, raw organic honey for the best results. Apply an even layer all over your face. Leave for 10 to 45 minutes and wash off using warm water. WHY? Natural beauty expert Kim Wallace, founder of kimberlyloc.com is a big advocate of honey. She says it is highly antibacterial, so it’s great for acne treatment and prevention as well as being full of antioxidants, which is great for slowing down aging. It’s also a natural complexion boost because it’s extremely moisturizing and soothing and it opens up pores making them easy to unclog. Yes please!

2. Cinnamon Lip Plumper

Mix a teaspoon of cinnamon powder and half a teaspoon of vaseline together then gently massage into your lips and leave on for 5 or so minutes before wiping off. WHY? Cinnamon contains cassia oil which increases blood circulation to your lips and is actually the ingredient in many expensive plumpers.  The Sri Lankan spice is also anti-fungal and anti-bacterial and has been used for thousands of years for beauty and health.

3. Coffee and Sugar Body Scrub

Mix equal parts of fresh coffee grounds (or textured instant coffee) with sugar and bind together with a little bit of coconut oil to create a paste. Apply in the shower and let it dry on your skin for 5 to 10 minutes to allow it to absorb. WHY? Exfoliating your skin is vital for expelling toxins and improving circulation. Caffeine is known to increase blood flow, and can assist in reducing the appearance of cellulite and give your skin a more even tone (Hello bikini bod!)

4. Olive Oil Hair Treatment

Warm half a cup (or more) of olive oil in the microwave before applying it generously to the ends of your hair and scalp. Leave it in for up to 10 to 20 minutes, and then shampoo it out. WHY? Just like its big sister Coconut oil, Olive oil is packed with antioxidants according to online beauty expert Beauty Crew. Rich in omega-3 fatty acids as well as vitamin A and E, it is great for locking in moisture and removing build-ups of sebum that can prevent hair growth.

5. Potato Eye Mask

Comfort food Numero Uno yes but who would have thought the humble spud had so much else going for it? Chill a couple of raw, peeled potato slices in the fridge and place them over your eyes for 30 minutes. WHY? They’re rich in vitamin B and C as well as minerals like magnesium and potassium making them the ultimate eye smoother and de-puffer!
